Authorities started to lose hope for a young minke whale who became trapped in the River Thames near London.

According to news agency Associated Press, its condition deteriorated rapidly as the dropping tide approaches.

“A veterinary team will stand by to euthanize the animal,” the British Divers Marine Life Rescue said.

The BDMLR said the injured and drained calf will struggle to swim even if it managed to go back into deeper water.

Crews earlier freed the whale from a perilous stranding on a lock near Richmond, a few miles downstream of Teddington.

However, it slipped back into the water as experts take it for further health checks on an inflatable pontoon.

Meanwhile, residents of Texas, United States rescued cold-stunned sea turtles and took them to a convention center.

According to various news reports online, the number of sea turtles being dropped off has increased.

With that, the South Padre Island Convention Center started pitching in for Sea Turtle Incorparated.

Ed Caum, executive director of the center said they have “collected” more than 3,500 sea turtles so far.

Caum said he fears that they will not be able to return the sea turtles to the water due to another cold front.
