Library staff returned an overdue book to a Scotland 38 years after dropped off at a different library.

According to news agency United Press International, it came 750 miles all the way in England.

The Shetland Library said staff from the Bungay Community Library in Suffolk hand-delivered the book.

The book, which has the title “To Sea in a Sieve” by Peter Bull, was 38 years due already.

“It’s quite aged, as you would expect,” Catherine Jeromson, support services librarian at Shetland, said.

Someone returned the book to the Bungay Community Library, 750 miles away from Shetland, last year.

Meamwhile, someone also returned a borrowed book to a library in Ireland after 64 years in his custody.

According to various news reports posted online, it has the title “The Hedge and the Horse.”

The Monaghan Town Library said the borrower checked out the book on Jan. 11, 1957.

Executive Librarian Kay Cassidy said the library already got rid of late fees in 2019.

But at the 1957 rate, the said book would have amassed about $2,000 in fines.

Officials cannot determine the whereabouts of the book for the 64 years that it was checked out from the library.
