China’s New International Sensation: A Herd of Elephants

A herd of elephants is becoming ridiculously famous in their homeland, China, and is now reaching stardom in other countries too.

According to The Associated Press (AP), the mammals have been hiking for over 365 days, and almost 500-kilometers. The trek started from their wildlife sanctuary in Yunnan province to the edges of Kunning’s provincial capital.

Satellite news stations and newspaper agencies are documenting their momentous march.

A lot of things can happen in a day, what more if it’s throughout the year? Aside from being adorable, animals are the most spontaneous and unscripted living creatures on earth.

Social media platforms like Twitter and YouTube have captured plenty of escapades and funny moments of these giants. In addition to these files, an incident where two calves were rescued by older elephants after slipping into an irrigation dyke.

There are different speculations as to why these mammals embarked on such a journey. Some say it’s because the leader of the herd has gone astray, while many may think and agree that loss of habitat due to deforestation has forced these creatures to move out of their comfort zone.

A herd of elephants has also suffered from poaching and human-animal conflict. Therefore, China gives the highest level of protection to these mammals to ensure that their population would increases. Residents are required to exercise caution while around them.
