Authorities immediately dismissed several staff of a clinif in an Indonesian province after turning away a pregnant patient for karaoke.

In early July this year, a video went viral showing a pregnant woman waiting outside the community clinic Cibungbulang district in Bogot regency. The pregnant patient was also heard saying she thinks she has COVID-19 and needs medical attention.

However, Situ Udik Puskesmas remains close in the video. Moments later, a staff member went outside greeting the patients with masks down. He then explained the clinic will remain closed throughout the day to give way for Friday prayers.

However, loud music can be heard inside the clinic. There were also people singing along with karaoke.

After the video went viral, the head staff apologized through the local media. He explained that the staff didn’t “technically” have karaoke inside but just used the clinic’s PA system to listen to music via YouTube.

Bogor Regent Ade Yasin later on dismissed the clinic chief and two staff members. The official said the clinic still denied patients who needed access to healthcare service during that time.

“This can’t happen again. One incident is enough. All clinics are good, and when one does something bad, the others have their reputations harmed as well,” Regent Ade said.
