A couple mistook a strange-looking creature as a dried-up snake, but it was alive and it moves.

Britt Whitmarsh shared to the internet her discovery, but was told to ‘get an exorcist’ and ‘burn the garden down to its roots.’

“Truthfully, I thought it was an old dried-up snake until it started moving,” Britt told Cheshire Live.

Britt’s grandparents spotted the animal in their garden.

“My nan goes out every morning to de-head any died off flowers and pick-up petals or leaves that have fallen off,” she added.

People who saw the post started to give their advice.

“Horrible, whatever it is,” one commenter said. Another added: “Get an exorcist.”

A third user also commented: “Yeah, basically burn the garden down to its roots… or, move house.”

Meanwhile, Mike Jordan, the director at Chester Zoo, confirmed that it was an Elephant Hawkmoth.

The Hawkmoth was in a caterpillar stage. However, it spreads its head to mimic a snake and scare off predators when it feels unsafe.

“The caterpillar feeds on willowherb and fuchsias,” Jordan said. “When disturbed, it inflates the segments behind the head.”

When the caterpillar changes to a moth, its body becomes golden-olive. It will also grow pink bars on the wings.
