Police arrested a woman in Japan after discovering the frozen corpse of her mother kept in her apartment for 10 years.

Authorities said the daughter bent her mother’s body to fit in the freezer. Nevertheless, authorities did not find any visible wounds in the body.

According to a BBC report, Yumi Yoshino, 48, said she found her mother dead 10 years ago. However, she decided to hide the body because she “didn’t want to move out” of the Tokyo home they shared.

Meanwhile, authorities could not determine the time and cause of the mother’s death.

The mother, assumed to be around 60 at the time of her death, was named on the lease of the apartment in a municipal housing complex.

Later on, the daughter had to leave the apartment by mid-January due to missing rent payments amounting to over one million yen.

By January 27, a cleaning staff reported the frozen corpse kept inside the closet.

On January 29, the daughter was arrested at a hotel in Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo.

Later on, Ms. Yoshino admitted to the police that she feared eviction if they found out the death of her mother. She now faces charges  “on suspicion of abandoning and hiding a female body” police said.
