Talented canines took to the waves in Florida, United States for the 8th Annual East Coast Dog Surfing Championships.

According to news agency United Press International, the animals showed off their unusual skills in surfing.

Brevard Humane Society organizes the event at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach as part of the Easter Surf Festival.

Officials ensured strict observance of COVID-19 guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A yellow lab, named Lily, took the top spot in the competition after braving rough waters on her surfboard.

“It was fun but it all benefits the Brevard Humane Society and that’s what’s important,” Lily’s owner Michael Vogt said.

Last December, Florida held its 11th annual Surfing Santa event despite the continuous threat of COVID-19.

According to various news reports, fewer participants took to the waves while observing health measures.

Organizers advised surfing people in Santa suits to hit the waves individually while practicing social distancing.

They also livestreamed the annual Christmas Eve event in Cocoa Beach to let people witness it virtually.

“It’s about a tenth of the normal number of surfers, but it’s still fun,” said Santa-suited participant Gregg Galzerano.
