The original voice of Doraemon has passed away after a sudden stroke attack.

According to online site Mashable, Tomita Kosei, who voiced Doraemon in the original 1973 series, was 84 years old.

His agency, Production Baobab, officially confirmed the sad news through a public statement.

“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all of you for your kindness,” said the agency.

Kosei had voiced Doraemon during the first 13 episodes of the anime. Masako Nozawa then replaced him for the following episodes and seasons.
