According to a Smart Local Thailand report, a family of Buddhists in Phetchaburi Province held a big Chinese banquet as part of the merit-making ceremony. This tradition is key to retaining good karma and ensuring that those departed are well taken care of.

The report said offering food for the spirits is common in the country; however, this is the first time that there are people who did the offering that takes up an entire cemetery.

Dr. Thanaphon Wannacho, the banquet’s host, set up the Chinese banquet. This is to fulfill his late mother’s wish to treat a cemetery full of lost souls.

After selecting a cemetery, he called a dinner service called Toa Jin Keng Phochana. Surprisingly, the caterer accepted his request.

During the banquet, the catering service put up about 36 tables on the cemetery as the host and his family participated in a ritual of merit making.

Meanwhile, it also included giant plates of Thai dishes sat on top of the tables awaiting the hungry souls.

Further, Mr. Ekkaluk Undee, the owner of the catering service, shared the felt chills after sundown.
