Authorities in Australia reported that a “freelance” sperm donor fathered 23 babies in one year.

According to a Daily Mail report, Alan Phan, 40, was privately providing sperm to would-be parents. He also donated in registered fertility clinics.

Victorian Assisted Reproductive Authority (VARTA) is now investigating the man, who is currently living in Brisbane.

He said he was the first Vietnamese man to donate sperm in Australia. His ethnicity and success rate in semen donating made him in high demand in the market.

Many fertility clinics reported that Mr. Phan donates sperm outside their registers. They speculate that created more children for others than is permitted.

According to the Victorian law, men can only create 10 families, including their own. Mr. Phan also has two children of his own.

During interviews, the freelance sperm donor said he found it hard to turn women down. He said they were desperate to have a baby. He shared he even donated to three women in one day.

Mr. Phan described his donating as a hobby and a full-time job as well. He already abstained from doing sexual activities. He regularly worked out at the gym and took vitamins to ensure healthy sperm.

VARTA said they will ensure that no more children will be born using his sperm. Embryos in storage cannot also be used.
