A mansion is now on sale for the bargain price of just more than $500,000. But the abandoned property may need some work.

According to The Daily Mirror, George Francis Wyndham built the Blackborough house in Cullompton nearly 200 years ago. He was the fourth Earl of Egremont,

Contractors had submitted ambitious plans to transform the manor into a 60-bed hotel.

The scheme would have seen the refurbishment of the house to a hotel and spa. Under the proposal, it has 24 letting rooms excluding those in the pavilion, as well as new piazza and botanical gardens.

It would have also restored the property’s walled garden with new orchard and amphitheater.

The proposals, however, did not push through.

Estate agency Strutt & Parker is now selling the property. The 8-bedroom mansion comes with 10.4 acres of private land.

“It is hoped that someone will restore it to its former glory,” said senior associate director Oliver Custance Baker.

The house is within picturesque countryside. There is a wealth of wild flora and fauna, footpaths and winding lanes.

It is just a short distance away from Honiton, with the city of Exeter being located around 18 miles away.
