North Korean Dictator Kim Jon-Un said K-Pop is a “vicious cancer.” He also threatened North Koreans to receive harsh punishment if they’re caught listening to it or even watching South Korean dramas.

Currently, North Korea bans any form of South Korean entertainment. However, flash drives containing South Korean Music, dramas, and movies are smuggled into the country coming from China.

However, the North Korean leader said in the state media that it will cause the country “to crumble like a damp wall” if it continues to proliferate in the country.

He then ordered his government to “clamp down” on the cultura invasion. He said it corrupts the “attire, hairstyles, speeches, behaviours’ of North Korea’s youth,” the New York Times reported.

Last year, North Korea enacted a law banning people to watch or possess K-Pop and any South Korean entertainment. They will have to face 15 years in a labor camp, if caught. Previously, the maximum of punishment was five years for hard labor.

Further, reports show that the communist state even searches for South Korean content and vocabulary in various things among individuals. These include computers, text messages, and notebooks.

Meanwhile, families imitating the “puppet accent” of the South will be expelled out of the cities.

A defector from the North Korea smuggled goods into North Korea said: “He must reassert his ideological control on the young. He has to do this if he doesn’t want to lose the foundation for the future of his family’s dynastic rule.”
