A man from the U.S. could face up to two years in jail in Thailand after posting negative hotel reviews.

According to Yahoo News, the Sea View Resort, where Wesley Barnes stayed, has sued him under the country’s anti-defamation laws.

Barnes had posted several reviews on different platforms accusing the resort of “modern day slavery.”

In response, the resort busted his claims, adding that the harsh criticism was damaging to the hotel’s reputation.

“The owner filed a complaint that the defendant had posted unfair reviews on his hotel on the TripAdvisor website,” police said.

According to reports, an argument over Barnes wanting to bring a bottle of alcohol in the restaurant triggered the incident.

The hotel said he had caused a commotion due to a corkage fee, which was eventually waived.

If found guilty of breaking Thailand’s anti-defamation laws, Barnes could face up to two years in prison.

He insisted, however, that he did not publish the particular post on the website.

He added that he already lost his job over the incident, worrying that the case would make it even harder to later on find a job.
