A man armed with a machete left mysterious satanic messages written in blood on a sorority house at East Carolina University.

According to television channel Fox News, the man apparently harmed himself and used his own blood to smear messages on surfaces.

“Nothing severed but enough to transfer blood onto a couple different surfaces where the individual wrote messages,” said Capt. Chris Sutton of the ECU police.

Sutton explained that the writings were believed to be satanic in nature while some of the verbiage he was saying were sadistic.

Police officers later on de-escalated the situation and disarmed the person. They then sought psychological treatment to help the distressed man.

ECU student Grant Miller shared that he saw a couple of upside-down crosses on the surfaces of the sorority house.

“It said ‘Hail Satan’ like written in blood, which is strange,” Miller stated in a police interview.

Authorities eventually identified the man as 25-year-old Patrick Canter. Online jail files have listed him as a homeless person.

They have already filed charges of injury to real property against Canter, whose name did not appear on school records.
