Men suffering from chest pain receive faster medical treatment from hospitals than women having the same symptoms, according to a recent study.

In a recent study conducted by NYU Langone Health, hospital staff give women triage less urgently, wait longer, and less likely get further observation.

Participants of the study include those adults having chest pains, specifically those who are around between 18 and 55 years old. Nevertheless, it didn’t cover the reasons women with chest pain didn’t receive the same treatment with men.

The team just assmed a pre-conceived notion of risk – that older men are at greater risk.

Meanwhile, studies found that one-third of women go to hospital due to heart attack; they mostly age under 55, which continuously grow by proportion in recent years.

Further, heart disease remains as the leading cause of death among women, especially the younger adults.

Of the 29 million visits of US adults experiencing chest discomforts, nearly 57% or about 16.5 million visits were women. They also usually report chest pain; however, men still receive better and faster medical treatment.

“The most important thing a woman can do is to seek medical care if she is worried and to ask specific questions of her doctor,” lead author Dr. Darcy Banco said.
