OMAN Set to Plant 10 Million Trees in The Next 10 Years

Oman has started its campaign to plant 10 million indigenous trees over the next 10 years.

According to the MSN report, the project is in partnership with the country’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).

The campaign started during the Omani Environment Day. Its slogan is “Cooperative Society for a Sustainable Environment”, helping to expand green cover in the Sultanate and combat desertification.

In a press statement, Dr. Thuraya further said the campaign is one of the most effective ways to reduce carbon monoxide emissions. He is the Clinical Assistant Director General for Nature Conservation of MECA.

Further, he also said planting more than half a trillion trees can reduce more than 205 gigatons of carbon in the world.

“This initiative will help us protect biodiversity in Oman, restore wildlife habitats, increase green areas,” he said in the statement.

“[It will also] combat land degradation, create economic benefits for local communities. Further, It will raise environmental awareness on the importance of plants in sustaining the natural resources.”

In addition, Said Al Habsi supported the government’s initiative, contributing 710 seedlings for this cause.

Mr. Said Habsi is famous in the country as a cancer survivor with a bright smile and also as a social media personality.
