A photograph posted on social media is inviting various speculations about the elusive Loch Ness monster.

According to British newspaper The Metro, Steve Challice of Southampton took the picture last September and posted it on Facebook.

It shows the back of an animal in the water, with the image too far away to tell if it is scaly or otherwise.

“I started taking a couple of shots and then this big fish came to the surface and then went back down again,” Challice said.

Could this be the latest sighting of the Loch Ness monster?

Last month, a tourist reportedly photographed the creature, the seventh “official” sighting of the monster this year.

Reports stated that Van-Schuerbeck recorded a dark object in the distance near Point Clair.

The man said he took the photo while on holiday with his family.

When he looked back at his holiday snaps, he suddenly realized that he may have captured the mythical beast.

The Official Loch Ness Sightings Register has accepted his claim.

The office clocked it up as the official seventh sighting of the mystery creature in this year.
