A photographer had the golden opportunity to take a rare photo of a leopard and black panther walking together in an Indian forest.

According to The Jakarta Post, Mithun H. captured the moment at the Kabini Forest Reserve during the winter season in 2019.

In his Instagram post last July 19, the image shows the black panther standing behind the leopard as they looked at his camera. He dubbed the post as the “Eternal Couple.” The post now has 114,497 likes.

According to his post, Saaya the black panther has been courting Cleopatra the leopard for four years already. While generally the male takes charge among courting couples, the image shows Cleopatra leads the black panther.

Mr. Mithun said he stayed in the same spot for six days to capture the image. He said he could hear the two animals mating about 100 meters away from him. However, he could not see them due to the limited visibility.

“They had made a large kill and would not move until it was over,” the photographer, with 12 years of wildlife photography, explained.

“I could wait for [six] years for a moment like this,” he added.
