A new study has warned that drinking coffee before breakfast could impair your control of blood sugar levels.

According to tabloid newspaper The Daily Mirror, researchers from the University of Bath conducted the study.

James Betts said coffee impairs our blood sugar control. Especially when it is the first thing that our bodies come into contact with.

“We might improve this by eating first and then drinking coffee later if we feel we still need it, Betts added.

The researchers asked 29 healthy men and women to undergo three different overnight experiments in random order.

They then tested their blood samples following the intake of coffee. It revealed that it increased their blood glucose response by around 50 percent.

Harry Smith, who led the study, advised that we consume our cup of caffeinated coffee after eating breakfast rather than before.

“[We] should try to balance the potential stimulating benefits of coffee in the morning with the potential for higher blood glucose levels,” Smith added.

He explained, however, that there is still a lot more to learn about the effects of sleep on the metabolism process of our body.
