An Air Canada passenger has gone viral for a video showing a large crack in his airplane window. The airline insisted, however, that he was never in any danger.

The New Zealand Herald reported that Karl Haddad noticed that the window he was sleeping against had a crack around the outside. He was on a flight from Toronto to Montreal.

“I poked at it a little bit to see if it was a big crack,” said Haddad.

The 20-year-old guy began filming on his phone, showing that the plastic around the window moved when he touched it.

Minutes later, the captain came into the scene and assured him that they would be landing as soon as possible.

However, Haddad clarified that it was not a diversion or emergency landing. In an interview after the incident, he explained that the plane started its decent immediately after the crew noticed the crack.

Air Canada said the damage was not a concern and the plane arrived in Montreal Airport as planned.

“The part in question is a window blind frame assembly where the window blind slides up and down. This is a plastic part of the trim around the window and not a critical structural part,” said an airline spokesperson.
