A man from India successfully escaped from his jailers early August this year after using toilet break as an excuse.

According to a Gulf News report, the man, 47, was on his way to a COVID-19 hospital in West Bengal. While in transit, he told the police who were with him that he had to go to the toilet.

The unnamed prisoner was behind the bars since 2011. He was in jail for killing his wife.

His guards said the prisoner took the while he was being transported to a hospital in Triveni, Kalimpong. The man tested positive for coronavirus.

Ambulance driver and witness Amit Gurung told media outlets in an interview that he heard the man requesting for “short” and “long” toilet break. This means he wanted to urinate and defecate.

They stopped and the guards left him alone to find a spot. Later on, the prisoner used his “two to three minutes” break to escape.

The town Rahul Pandey, Darjeeling DSP is now doing a search for the prisoner. They posted the advisory on Twitter, earning 1,700 likes and more than 500 retweets.

Local media reported the police carrying on a search in the neighboring jungle. They called him by loudspeaker, warning Rai that there were leopards and bears in the forest.
